Robotic Surgery
Less invasive. More precise. Faster recovery.
The Urology Hospital celebrates 3500 robotic cases with the acquisition of its second Da Vinci robot, the all new Gen 4 X system – the first hospital on the African continent to reach this milestone.
The Urology Hospital comfortably combines state-of-the-art robotic technology and over twelve Urologists specialising in robotics to provide unparalleled expertise.
Procedures done robotically at The Urology Hospital include:
- Prostatectomy: a surgery to remove part or all the prostate gland.
- Partial nephrectomy: partial removal of the kidney to treat a disease or injury.
- Nephrectomy: removal of the kidney.
- Pyeloplasty: reconstructive surgery that repairs the ureter.
- Sacrocolpopexy: a surgical procedure that treats pelvic organ prolapse.
WHAT IS ROBOTIC SURGERY?
With the robotic system, surgeons operate through just a few small incisions.
The robotic system features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. As a result, the robotic system enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.
Patient Benefits:
- The surgery is minimally invasive, which means that it uses small incisions to perform the surgery.
- This is less trauma to the patient’s body when compared to open surgery and traditional laparoscopic surgery, due to the small incisions made instead of larger incisions.
- The surgical tools are more precise, with a wide range of movements for the wrists of the doctor.
- The robotic surgery also offers more vision to the surgeons, through 3DHD that gives a crystal-clear view of the surgery.
- The robotic surgery being minimally invasive will mean that the patient will bleed less during the surgery, which will cause less blood transfusions for the patient.
- All these improvements to more traditional surgeries all equate to one thing: less recovery time. The patient would not have to stay admitted at the hospital for very long and would be able to return to their normal daily activities sooner.
