To the Staff at The Urology Hospital, The Management, and Dr Kabo Ijane and Hugo van der Merwe:

On purpose I wanted to wait a year before I write this. Routine medical examinations indicated I have raised PSA levels in my blood prior to 2022, (indication of prostate cancer) and eventually I sought the opinions of Urologists.

I was referred to Drs Kabo Ijane and Hugo van der Merwe and decided to visit both for a first and second opinion, respectively. They not only know each other but are also professional colleagues and Robotic Surgeons, each managing his own practice with rooms at The Urology Hospital. Both welcomed my request for a second opinion.

Their advice was professional and consistent, and I underwent a Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy on 9 May 2023. From the pre-authorisations department, who arranged everything with our medical aid (Jana and Michelle) to my reception on the day of admittance (under leadership of Mr Simon Masingi) everything went smoothly. The Patient Administration Manager Shawn de Bruyn, and his back-office staff, took care of the account with our medical aid, and advised constantly on what was required in preparation for my hospitalisation.

I later learned that while I was in theatre where Dr Ijane performed the procedure, Dr van der Merwe also looked in to check on me. I received special care from the Theatre Matron, Sr Linda Mapungwana, and her highly efficient theatre staff, and after that was admitted to Ward B where Unit Manager Sr Wilma Bekker and her excellent staff looked after me.

I have no doubt that it is because of these Urologists and equally efficient hospital staff that I was back to normal in a matter of weeks and even today, more than a year later, I have recovered fully from my operation.

I will recommend The Urology Hospital as a centre of excellence, where world-renowned home-grown Urologists have their rooms and any of these doctors can be visited to receive the best urology and related advice and care available.

Nobody wants to go to a hospital, but if you must, this is the one.
