ENROLLED NURSE (ICU)

This position reports to the ICU Unit Manager and will be responsible for the following performance areas:
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Safe Patient Care:
- Ensure Total Patient Care is applied according to the Scientific Nursing Process.
- Ensure Patient Rights and Statutory requirements are adhered to.
- Prevent and manage Medico-Legal risks.
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Practices active Patient care according to Scope of Practice and assumes total responsibility for these activities.
- Ensure Urology Hospital standards (policies and procedures) are adhered to.
- Support is provided to learners and new employees to ensure safe practice.
- Ensure Competence is demonstrated in all performance output areas.
- Stock and Equipment Control:
- Medication and nursing unit stock are received, stored, and utilised according to Urology Hospital Policy.
- Ensure movement of stock/equipment is done according to Urology Hospital policy.
- Ensure Life support equipment and stock are utilised according to Urology Hospital.
- Nursing Unit equipment is utilised according to procedures.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD):
- Professional development objectives are set on an annual basis.
- Maintain Portfolio of CPD- activities.
- In-service training opportunities are utilized.
- Patient Records:
- Ensure record keeping is done according to Urology Hospital standards (policies and procedures).
- All records comply with legal requirements.
- Clinical information (co-morbidities and complications) is accurately recorded.
- Medication and Surgical stock are accurately and timeously recorded.
- Record audits are done with a Registered Nurse, according to Urology Hospital.
- Client Satisfaction:
- Client expectations and basic needs are met.
- Professional ethics, Urology Hospital values, and caring standards are demonstrated in behaviour.
- Quality client service principles are maintained.
- Behaviour exhibits excellent service.
- Meetings are utilised as quality improvement opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Registered with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse.
- Relevant nursing qualifications.
- Ability to work under high pressure.
- Able to work full days and overtime.
- Previous experience as an Enrolled Nurse within an ICU environment.
- Urology nursing would be advantageous.
