Critical Vacancy: Infection Control Manager

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Infection Control

    • Implementation of Infection Control policies and procedures.
    • Establish a facility-wide system for the prevention, identification, and control of infections of patients and visitors, including surveillance designed to identify possible communicable diseases or infections before they spread.
    • Conduct outbreak investigations.
    • Report all possible incidents of communicable diseases to state or national agencies.
    • Oversee the antibiotic stewardship program and monitor patient antibiotic use.
    • Monitoring of hospital-acquired infection rates.
    • Investigate incidents / adverse events.
    • Coordinate antibiotic stewardship program.
    • Case investigation, notification, and follow-up of all notifiable diseases.
    • Provide information and advice to the hospital management regarding IPP issues.
    • Advise the SHE committee on IPP matters.
    • Cover OHS department in absence of OHS RN.
    • Comply with all Best Care Always and Quality initiatives.
    • Electronic event reporting system is utilised by all relevant parties and the database is maintained.
    • Reports submitted as per set requirements.
    • Keep monthly statistics on Infections according to policies and procedures.

Relationship Management

  • Maintain a constructive working relationship with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the hospital EXCO to develop, implement, and evaluate the annual infection goals and plan.
  • Partner with leaders, physicians, local municipality, state, or activities related to infection prevention.
  • Queries of relevant parties are addressed according to set guidelines.
  • Relationships are built with professional bodies on Health & Safety and Infection Control matters.
  • Relationships are built with laundry service providers.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mentally beneficial.
  • Maintain customer intimacy through building relationships with doctors and nursing staff and building patient loyalty.
  • Promote and maintain a close working relationship with doctors and other Stakeholders where the differences of others are recognised, understood, and valued so that all can reach their full potential and maximise their contributions.
  • Build strategic inter-departmental relationships to help achieve business goals at EXCO and departmental level within the hospital.

  • Implementing The Urology Hospital policies and procedures
  • Investigate all incidents and do route course analysis and ensure appropriate action plans are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with Protocols, Policies, Regulations, and Acts.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in working order and properly maintained.
  • Control of Asset/Inventory register.

Governance and Quality Management

  • Continuous improvement of systems and processes on hospital level are implemented, coordinated, and supported.
  • The Urology Hospital policies are aligned, coordinated, reviewed, updated, and distributed.
  • Hospital accreditation standards and core standards are monitored, and related initiatives are coordinated.
  • Best practices are recorded, shared, and/or implemented.
  • QI programs are run according to department requirements.
  • Provide and receive patient information, ensuring that all patient information is provided, received, and recorded in accordance. with the Protection Act and The Urology Hospital Policies.
  • To maintain written records and legal documents to required levels and accepted practice.
  • Ensure you are aware of your responsibilities, and supporting policies and undertake the appropriate level of safeguarding training relevant to your role.
  • To maintain knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, ensuring appropriate measures are taken in the report of Health and Safety for patients, relatives, visitors, hospital staff, and contractors.
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities and ensure appropriate Strategic and Quality Improvement initiatives are developed and measured.

  • The competence of all nursing practitioners is displayed in all performance areas.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse.
  • Infection Control Qualification.
  • 5 Years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Sound knowledge and nursing experience.
  • Prepared to work as part of a team within an existing framework.
  • Must be able to work full days and overtime as required by Management.
  • Ability to work under high pressure.
  • Strong leadership skills.
