PHARMACIST
This position reports to the Pharmacy Manager and will be responsible for the following performance areas:
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Dispensing Medication
- Patients are counselled in why, how, and when to take their medication.
- Medicines are prepared, mixed, and dispensed for patients.
- Medication is issued on picking slip for wards and theatres.
- Medicines being dispensed are checked for correct dosage and combination requirements.
- Drug information is provided to doctors, hospital staff, and patients.
- Medication treatment records are kept as per guidelines set.
- Medications are dispensed and prepared according to medicines and related substances control act.
- Patient and Retail Accounts
- Private patients’ prescription sand credits are processed as a priority.
- To Take Out’s (TTO’s) billed according to medical aid requirements.
- Patient credits checked, processed, and packed away.
- Receipts for retail sales are processed and packed away.
- Journal entries are done as per procedure.
- Schedule 5/6 Register
- Pharmacy register is balanced after stock issues.
- All registers are balanced every 3months as per pharmacy regulations.
- Schedule 5 medication is issued on order request and ward and theatre register is completed and balanced.
- Stock control.
- Stock is ordered, received, and issued according to stock management principles.
- Age, excess and dead stock is managed.
- Stock returned for credits and outstanding.
- Goods Received for Credit are managed.
- Defective products are followed up.
- High value stock is well managed and controlled.
- Doctor/ward specific product needs are established.
- Stock take done according to stock take manual.
- Relevant parties informed of stock procedure.
- Stock take variances addressed and explained.
- Expired/broken stock disposed of according to legislation.
- Ensure optimal shelf maintenance.
- Administration and Reports
- Faxes and photocopies are made as required.
- Client Satisfaction
- Professional ethics and Urology values are demonstrated in behaviour.
- Competence is demonstrated in all performance output areas.
- Confidentiality of patient information is maintained.
- Drug related information is provided to doctors, hospital staff and patients.

- Do daily cash up according to procedure.
- Ensure outstanding moneys are followed up and collected.
- Responsibility
- To ensure that all parties work according to their scope of practice.
- To check all prescriptions done by pharmacist assistants, learners, interns.
- To always be aware of the fact that you as a pharmacist is ultimately responsible for all medication leaving the pharmacy.
- You have to make 100% sure that all prescriptions are checked and correct.
REQUIREMENTS
- Pharm degree is essential.
Registered as a pharmacist with the SAPC.
- 3+ years’ experience in retail and private hospital
- Pharmaceutical product knowledge
- Microsoft office
- Trifour
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to communicate an understanding of health policy and professional health agendas.
- Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive issues in a supportive and professional manner to effect positive outcomes.
