CSSD Supervisor
This position reports to the Theatre Unit Manager and will be responsible for the following performance areas:

- Instrument Replacement
- Management signature for order numbers
- IPC monthly reports
- CSSD monthly reports
- Sterile storage inventory
- Sterile storage extras
- Equipment repairs
- CFSA SOP’s Reading
- APPSA guideline reading
- IPC policies reading
- In-Service training
- Company policy reading
- Prevent and manage Medico-Legal
2. Quality Assurance:
- Ensure patient Rights and Statutory requirements are adhered to.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment is created for CSSD and Theatre personnel.
- Prevent and manage Medico-Legal.
- Mutually beneficial relationships are built and maintained with colleagues and OR teams.
- The Urology Hospital standards (policies and procedures) are adhered to.
- Work is allocated and performed within the relevant scope of practice.
- Support is provided to learners and new employees to ensure safe practice.
- Competence is demonstrated in all performance output areas.
- Affirmation of disinfection (damp dusted) and surgical environment ready for use.
- Sterile trolleys are set according to specifications.
- Prevention of cross contaminations is maintained as per set standards.
- Promotion of hygiene standards per department’s policy.
- Instruments are controlled as per policy and procedure.

3. Stock and Equipment Control (Inventory):
- Theatre stock is ordered, received, stored, and utilised according to Policy.
- Ensure movement of stock/equipment to adjacent units and Doctor’s rooms is done according to The Urology Hospital policy.
- Ensure Theatre, surgical supplies, instruments, and stock are prepared according to theatre lists and Doctors’ preference cards.
- Equipment and instruments are managed, maintained, tested, and utilised according to procedures.
4. Continuous Professional Development (CPD):
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) needs are identified and addressed.
- Professional development objectives are set on an annual basis.
- Portfolio of CPD- activities are maintained.
- In-service training opportunities are utilized.
5. Mentorship:
- Senior experienced Staff must act as Mentors.
- Ensure new employees complete the Unit specific orientation programme within three months – to be signed off by Senior Registered Nurse Theatre.
- Assessments are done on an ad hoc basis.
- Constructive feedback is given.
- Holistic support is provided to new employees/learners
6. Training and Development:
- Responsible for CSSD staff training and development.
REQUIREMENTS:
- SANC Registration as an Enrolled Nurse/ Registered Nurse.
- Computer literacy will be an added advantage (Microsoft Word and Excel).
- Must have Theatre experience.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a CSSD Supervisor.
- A CSSD qualification and formal CSSD training are essential.
- Knowledge of Urology / Urogynae, and general instruments.
